The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has called on the Federal and state governments to urgently address the economic hardships currently being faced by Nigerians.
The association charged governments to quickly come up with measures to reduce the prices of food stuff and ameliorate the sufferings of the citizens.
The Kogi State chapter of NAWOJ made these calls in a communique issued at the end of its congress held in Lokoja on July 10.
The association, particularly urged the Kogi State Government and relevant authorities to take urgent steps to regulate the prices of essential commodities in the state.
It appealed to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to set up a price control board to checkmate activities of middlemen so so as to stop arbitrary increase in the prices of goods and services in the state.
NAWOJ also expressed concern at the way and manner wastes are being indiscriminately disposed in Lokoja metropolis.
“The Association calls on the State Government and Sanitation Management Agency to ensure immediate removal of refuse on the streets, especially this period that there are confirmed cholera cases in the state,” the statement said.
