The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says 20 chairmanship candidates in the coming local government election in Kano State have tested positive to drug tests administered on them.
The state NDLEA Commander, Abubakar Idris Ahmad, disclosed this to newsmen.
Ahmad said all the 20 candidates who are members of the ruling NNPP tested positive for multiple drugs during the screening exercise for the upcoming local government elections.
According to him, the 20 candidates tested positive for substances including opioids, hemp benzodiazepines and nicotine.
Ahmad, however, said no female aspirant had tested positive so far.
The screening exercise process is still ongoing and more candidates to be tested before the final verification by the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC).
Recalls that KANSIEC had scheduled the elections for October 26, 2024, where 44 chairmanship and 484 councillorship positions will be contested respectively.
