Late Nigeria’s First Olympic Games Medalist, Nojim Maiyegun Buried In Austria

Late Nigeria’s first Olympic Games Medalist, Nojim Maiyegun has been buried in Vienna, Austria.

Nojim Maiyegun was buried according to Islamic rites on Thursday, August 29, 2024 in a Muslim cemetery in Vienna.

He died on Monday, August 26, 2024 at the age of 85 years.

The Muslim Community in Vienna had on Tuesday made a public announcement about his burial in a post on a social media.

The message reads :
“Asalam Alaekum Waramatullâhi Wabaraqatuh.

“This is to inform you that Nojeem Maiyegun who passed away at the age of 85 on Monday 26th August 2024 will finally be laid to rest on Thursday 29th August 2024 at the Muslim Cemetery, Vienna. [Großmarktstraße 2A, 1230 Wien].

“Please let us turn out in large numbers to accord our beloved father a befitting burial.

“May Allâh Almighty forgive all his shortcomings and grant him Jannah Firdaws.”

Maiyegun’s burial in Vienna , it was gathered was in kine with his wish and that of his wife and children.

A native of Abeokuta, Ogun State, Maiyegun who lives and grew up in Lagos won Nigeria’s first Olympic medal at the Tokyo’64 games.
