Lokoja – Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello on Friday received members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who recently decamped into the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ankpa Local Government.
While receiving them , Bello assured the new APC members that they would be treated fairly and accorded equal privileges just like older members of the party.
He said that there is no discrimination in the state chapter of the APC .
He thanked them for their resilience, dedication and decision to identify with the All Progressives Congress.
The governor said that the ruling APC was a party to be, saying that they are fully welcome to be part of a new Kogi which his government is building.
The governor appreciated the Former Deputy Speaker, Hon. Rabiu Alfa for his loyalty and dedication, while he also lauded the chairman of Ankpa Local Government Area, Hon. Ibrahim Abagwu for the good work he has been doing.
Bello promised that the November 11, 2023 governorship election in the state will be free, fair and peaceful.
He assured that his government would ensure that the process was violence-free to ensure that the people of Kogi state freely cast their votes.
The governor said anyone who attempt to destabilise the state would be taken care of by security operatives.
He listed some of his administration’s achievements in Ankpa Local Government, promising that more shall be done.
Bello urged the decampees to enlist more of their supporters and advocate to people at the grassroots to join the APC, saying that there is room for everyone to benefit from the dividends of good governance
The leader of the delegation , Hon. Abraham Usman said they decided to join the APC out of convinction.
He said they were encouraged by Governor Bello’s “sterling leadership acumen and political trajectory, which reflects his firmness to always do the right thing.”
He noted that members of the group are high ranking leaders of PDP in Ankpa Local Government Area and are now willing to work for the All Progressives Congress (APC)
The state APC Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Bello who had earlier received the decampees before leading them to the governor describe them as strong grassroot political stakeholders from Ankpa Local Government.
He said they were “harvested ” by APC stakeholders in Ankpa, led by the immediate past Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Rabiu Alfa.
He stated that the new members were willing to join the party, work and add value towards the party’s victory in the forthcoming elections.
