The Democratic Party (PDP) has re-elected Abdulrahman Mohammed as its National Chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary.

The duo, alongside other members of the National Working Committee (NWC), emerged through a consensus arrangement on Sunday at an elective national convention held at the velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

Their re-election followed the dissolution of the party’s national caretaker committee, after a motion moved by Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the Senate.

Addressing delegates at the convention, former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido, appealed to aggrieved members to return to the party, assuring them of reconciliation.

“We are willing to forgive everyone. Come back, stay focused, and return to the PDP,” he said.

Also speaking, former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, described the PDP as resilient and deeply rooted in Nigeria’s political landscape.

“The PDP is alive, active, and here to stay. It is deeply rooted in this country and firmly in the minds of Nigerians,” Saraki said.

The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda, urged party members to close ranks and work towards reclaiming power in 2027.

“We need to recover the power that we have lost.

“We must come together to recover our country. Every member has a responsibility,” he stated.

On his part, Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, said members opposed to reconciliation had exited the party, noting that only two PDP governors remain aligned with the faction.

He commended Wike for his continued loyalty to the party, describing him as steadfast.

In his remarks, Wike called on members to recommit to rebuilding the PDP, stressing that leadership demands responsibility and dedication.

He expressed confidence that the party would field candidates in the 2027 general elections and reclaim its political strength.

The PDP remains sharply divided into rival factions. On Friday, a separate faction led by Kabiru Turaki approached the Supreme Court, seeking to restrain the Wike-backed group from holding the convention.
