Abuja – The Federal Government has confirmed the arrival of second batch of 130 Nigerian evacuees from Sudan.
Ambassador Dr Nasir Sani Gwarzo , the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management confirmed this to newsmen in Abuja on Friday.
Gwarzo said the returnees came aboard TARCO AIRLINE FLIGHT B7B3/300.
He said the returnees comprised 128 females and two males.
He said about 1, 700 Nigerians remaining in Sudan will be evacuated in a matter of days.
“All issues relating to delay of other flights have been resolved and all cleared diplomatically ,” Gwarzo said.
Other hilights of the press conference addressed by Gwarzo are ; MAX AIR WITH CAPACITY OF 540 PASSENGERS, AZMAN AIR WITH 400 PASSENGERS AND C-130 ARE ON GROUND TO EVACUATE OTHERS WHILE TARCO PROMISED TO MAKE TWO MORE TRIPS AS WELL AS AIR PEACE ON STANDBY.
“A LADY PUT TO BED IN PORT SUDAN. BOTH BABY AND MUMMY ARE DOING GREAT AND WILL BE BROUGHT BACK SOON WHILE A NIGERIAN WHO SUSTAINED HAND INJURY HAS BEEN TREATED AND DISCHARGED FROM THE HOSPITAL.
“ALL RETURNEES WILL BE PROFILED, CATER FOR AND PROVIDED WITH POST TRAUMA TREATMENT AND COUNSELLING AND LIASE WITH FEDERAL MINISTRY OF EDUCATION FOR THE CONTINUATION OF THEIR STUDIES IN NIGERIA.
“THIRD BATCH OF THE FLIGHT IS BEING EXPECTED IN ANOTHER 12 HOURS OR LESS. ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL.
“ALL RETURNEES RECEIVED N100,000 EACH AND A BAG COURTESY OF DANGOTE FOUNDATION WHILE NIDCOM FACILITATED MTN SIM WITH N5,000 WORTH OF CREDIT TO ALL OF THEM AND HUMANITARIAN MINISTRY PROVIDED FOODS WHILE NEMA PROVIDED VEHICLES AND ACCOMMODATION AS WELL AS LOGISTICS SUPPORT WITH DIPLOMATIC COVER FROM MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND REFUGEES COMMISSION PROMISED TO PSYCHO SOCIAL SUPPORT FOR ALL THE RETURNEES,” he said.
