The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam,on Friday resigned from office.

The development was announced in a statement issued by Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

According to the statement, Abdussalam’s resignation followed recent political developments in the state, including impeachment proceedings initiated by the Kano State House of Assembly.

A Federal High Court sitting in Kano had earlier declined an application by the deputy governor seeking to halt the impeachment process.

“The Kwankwasiyya Movement wishes to formally inform the general public, the good people of Kano State, and the entire nation that the Deputy Governor of Kano State has tendered his resignation from office,” the statement read.

It added that the decision, though difficult, was taken in the overall interest of the state and to ensure stability in governance.

The movement stressed that the resignation does not amount to an admission of the allegations levelled against Abdussalam, maintaining that he remains committed to his integrity and record of public service.

Describing the move as an act of statesmanship, the statement noted that it was aimed at preserving peace and avoiding political tension in the state.

It further disclosed that Abdussalam would now focus on strengthening the Kwankwasiyya Movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Residents of Kano State were urged to remain calm and law-abiding, while further updates are expected.
