Terrorists in the evening of Thursday, October 9, 2025, invaded Idofin Odo-Ase, a serene community in Oke Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing three residents of the community in the process.
The attack which took villagers unaware saw many of them scampering for safety and fleeing into nearby forests.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers invaded the community suddenly, firing indiscriminately and targeting residents in their homes before escaping into the surrounding bush.
“They came suddenly, shooting and shouting.
“We ran into the bush, but three people were killed instantly,” one resident recounted.
“People are leaving this morning because we don’t know if they’ll come back,” the resident said.
Residents lamented the absence of security forces, saying no police or soldiers responded during or after the attack.
“The killers moved freely. Everyone is scared. Families are packing their belongings and fleeing to nearby towns,” another source said.
In a related incident, bandits also struck at Efagi village in the Lafiagi Emirate, Edu Local Government Area of the state.
The attack took place in the early hours of Friday.
The assailants, who stormed the village between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m., kidnapped a man and his wife and injured a member of the local vigilante group who attempted to resist them.
Residents told Journalists that the attackers opened fire indiscriminately as they arrived, before whisking the couple away.
Troops of the Nigerian Army reportedly responded swiftly, engaging the bandits in a gunfight and rescuing the abducted woman.
Her husband, however, remains in captivity.
“The Army arrived instantly and started engaging them, a witness said.
“They have reportedly rescued the woman from the bandits’ hands,” eyewitnesses said.
The twin attacks highlight the worsening security situation in Kwara’s rural communities, where residents continue to live under the shadow of terror and uncertainty.
