Businessman and politician, Dr (Prince) Olatunji Olusoji has advised the people of Kogi West senatorial district in Kogi State to avoid confrontation and fight in their quest for the governorship position of the State.
He gave the advise during a chat with journalists in Lokoja on Sunday.
Olusoji said his advice became necessary following his observation that the people of Okun yoruba in Kogi West are about adopting the usual wrong approach of confrontation and fight in their agitation for the governorship position.
He said what Okun people and their political leaders need now is to put their house in order, organise and love themselves to form a common front to reckon with.
Olusoji who is the Asiwaju of Ayere Kingdom in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State lamented the disunity, absence of love and high prevalence of pettiness among the people of Okunland which he said are major obstacles to their governorship ambition.
He cited the 2023 governorship elections in the state as an example where only Kogi West could not agreed on a consensus governorship candidate out of the three senatorial districts in the state
“Okun people are not united, we are not organised.
“Pettiness, pull him down syndrome, hatred for one and another will not help us ,” he said.
Olusoji called on the people of Okun to support Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for a second term in office in 2027 and avoid unnecessary confrontation that can pit them against other parts of the state.
He described Governor Ododo as a trusted and credible leader who will honour his promise to hand over governorship position to Kogi West in 2032.
“We must be serious, we must be prepared because Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is ready to hand over to Okun,” he said.
Olusoji dismissed allegations that all his philanthropic and political activities across the state are geared towards realising his ambition of becoming the Deputy Governor of Kogi State in 2027.
“I have not discussed my political future with anybody. I have no ambition for 2027. I am looking up to the future.
“People will decide. No discussion on deputy governorship position. But if Governor Ododo calls to give me any assignment, I will oblige him,” he
Olusoji who is into Security Consultancy services also called on state and local governments to complement the efforts of the federal government to checkmate rising banditry and other violent crimes.
He described security as very expensive, saying that improvement in funding, acquisition of sophisticated security hardwares, technology and motivation of security personnel are very key in the fight against terrorism.
Olusoji commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the many reforms embarked upon by his administration since assumption of office in 2023.
He described the reforms as very necessary to put the country back on track after many years of mismanagement, saying that rehabilitating and rebuilding Nigeria from the scratch could be daunting.
“The reforms are difficult and painful, but it is for the good of all of us.
“The reforms will yield positive outcomes in the near future,” he said.
Olusoji who is into mining, aviation, oil and gas , logistics and security consultancy said he came back from Delta State to Kogi State to create a positive impact.
He explained that his foray into politics and recent joining of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is to work and support the party to become stronger in the state.
On his philanthropic activities , Olusoji said giving has become a way of life for him, saying that the art of giving was planted in him very early in life by his parents.
The politician, who is an Engineer by profession disclosed that he has been extending his hand of generosity to people in Okun areas for years.
He stated that his focus on giving free books and other educational materials to pupils and students since 2010 in Ayere and its environs was informed by his believe that quality education can change someone’s life positively.
Olusoji advised youths in the state to take education serious, saying that education remains at the foundation if whatever they want to become in life.
