Abimbola Olawuyi, the widow of late investigative journalist and broadcaster Kola Olawuyi, has died after a brief illness.
She reportedly passed away in Lagos on Monday morning, according to a family source who confirmed the development.
Her death comes 19 years after the passing of her husband, one of Southwest Nigeria’s most respected investigative broadcasters.
Kola Olawuyi was widely known for his groundbreaking radio and television programmes, Iriri Aye and Nnkan Nbe, which exposed crime, ritual killings, fraud, and other social vices.
His fearless reporting earned him widespread recognition as a champion of justice and accountability.
Following her husband’s death, Abimbola stayed largely out of the public eye, devoting herself to raising their four children and keeping the family together.
A family member described her as a resilient and devoted mother whose strength sustained the household through nearly two decades of hardship.
“Abimbola has been the pillar of the family since Kola’s death. Her passing is deeply painful, and the children have now lost both parents. We leave everything in God’s hands,” the source said.
Her death has left relatives, friends and well-wishers in mourning, with many remembering her for her quiet strength, sacrifice and unwavering commitment to her family.
The family said funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
With Abimbola’s passing, the Olawuyi family has suffered another profound loss, closing yet another chapter in the legacy of one of Nigeria’s most celebrated broadcasting families. (vitalnewsngr.com)
