Rivers State House of Assembly has passed a resolution asking Governor Siminialaye Fubara to re-present 2024 budget before it.

Aside the budget, Fubara is also to present the state’s medium-term expenditure framework for consideration.

The directive followed the adoption of a motion by the speaker, Hon. Martin Amaewhu, during the plenary of the house held at the legislators’ quarters, Port Harcourt, on Tuesday.

Presenting the motion, Amaewhu said it was worrisome that the House had yet to receive the executive’s budget and expenditure framework.

The lawmaker said the governor must present them for approval in line with the 1999 constitution.

On December 13, Mr Fubara presented a budget of N800 billion 2024 to a four-man House of Assembly for approval in his office.

This was at the heat of the political crisis between the Minister of FCT, Nyesome Wike and Fubara.

The crisis later spread to the Rivers State House of Assembly which polarised members into two groups of four members agaunst 27 members loyal to Wike.

The governor signed the budget on December 14, barely 24 hours after it was presented to the lawmakers.

However, under the peace accord facilitated by President Bola Tinubu, Mr Fubara was asked to re-present the budget as part of the conditions to end the political crisis in the state.
