Lokoja – The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man identified as Idris Aminu for clubbing his stepmother, Salamotu Aminu, to death with a pestle while she was sleeping.
The incident happened on Saturday night in Ihima Obeibs Ebozohu, a sleepy community in Okehi Local Government Area, Kogi State.
Eye witness account told our correspondent that three days earlier, the suspect had attempted to kill the old woman with poison, but she survived.
Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya said, the command has arrested Idris Adamu over the murder.
He said a full investigation has been launched into the matter.
According to him,”the lifeless body of Salamotu was discovered by her daughter in her room.
“Our men immediately mobilised to effect his arrest, he is currently in our custody while investigation is ongoing, ” he added
The incident has thrown the community into mourning and fear.
