President Bola Tinubu has officially forwarded the name of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan for confirmation as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The nomination was communicated in a formal letter addressed to the Senate and read during Tuesday’s plenary session by Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio.
In the letter, President Tinubu cited Section 154(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) as the legal basis for the appointment.
He stated, “I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate the appointment of Professor Joash Amupitan, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, as Chairman of INEC.”
Along with the nomination, the President submitted the nominee’s curriculum vitae for the Senate’s review and urged the upper chamber to expedite the confirmation process.
He also extended his highest regards to the Senate President.
Following the reading, Senator Akpabio referred the nomination to the Senate Committee of the Whole for prompt consideration.
The Senate is expected to schedule Amupitan’s screening and subsequently confirm or reject the appointment in plenary. (vitalnewsngr.com)
