Two nurses have been arrested following the tragic deaths of two young sisters at General Hospital in Zuru, Kebbi State, after an alleged medication error.
The victims, aged six and three, reportedly died on March 18 under circumstances suspected to involve negligence by hospital staff.
According to reports, the children were receiving treatment when a suspected drug misapplication led to complications that ultimately claimed their lives.
The incident has sparked outrage among residents of Zuru, who are demanding accountability and a thorough investigation.
The grieving father said that a senior medical officer, identified as “Mama Sultan,” had instructed that the medication should be administered through a drip rather than directly injected.
Despite repeated warnings from both him and his wife, a nurse allegedly ignored these instructions.
After administering the injection directly, the father claims the children died within minutes.
Authorities have arrested two nurses connected to the case, and they are currently in police custody in Birnin Kebbi as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, the Kebbi State government has set up a nine-member panel, led by Commissioner for Information and Culture Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed, to probe the incident.
Family members have raised concerns over repeated negligence at General Hospital Zuru, citing prior incidents of medical errors that were reportedly covered up.
Community members and relatives are calling for urgent investigation and accountability to ensure such tragedies do not happen again.
