A retired Permanent Secretary from the Ekiti State civil service, Mr Babatunde Alokan has been arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti for alleged stealing of a vehicle belonging to his former employer, Ekiti State Government.
Alokan who was arraigned on Tuesday, retired from the state civil service in 2024.
He was alleged to have went away with a vehicle belonging to the Ekiti State Government while proceeding on his retirement from the civil service.
According to the Prosecutor, Mr. Oriyomi Akinwale, the defendant refused to produce the vehicle even after he was arrested and detained over the alleged offence.
Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun of Court 1 sitting in Ado-Ekiti, in his ruling granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with one surety in like sum.
In addition, the surety must possess a landed property with C of O in Ado-Ekiti Magisterial district.
The surety, must also be a top civil servant with evidence of tax clearance of one year.
Due to his inability to immediately meet the bail conditions, Alokan unable was remanded in the Custodial facility, along Afao-Ekiti road throughout the Easter celebrations.
The case has been adjourned till May 9, 2025.
Recalled that Alokan was among four senior civil servants prematurely retired from service by former Governor Ayodele Fayose.
He was, however, reinstated by Governor Kayode Fayemi, in 2018.
Alokan’s reinstatement aling with four others followed the favourable consideration of
their petitions by the National Human Rights Commission.
