Lokoja – Police has confirmed
the death of one person in an explosion at a drinking joint, Labi Bear Parlour, Lewu junction, Kabba, Kogi State in the night of Wednesday, May 11.
A statement issued by the Kogi State Police Command in Lokoja on Thursday said many people also sustained injury as a result of the incident suspected to be gas explosion.
The statement signed by the state police command spokesman, SP William Aya identified the dead victim as a woman named Aisha.
“Immediately, the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Edward Egbuka deployed teams of personnel from Police Mobile Force, Quick Response Unit as well as conventional Officers to the scene along with the Military personnel to control access and evacuate the victims to Hospital.
“Normalcy has been restored in the area.
“During the process, one Aisha who was injured by the explosion and evacuated to the hospital with other injured victims, later died. Others are receiving treatment,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, Egbuka has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of investigation to immediately commence investigation into the incident.
He is ordered to unravel the cause of the explosion alongside with the personnel of the Explosives Ordinance Department (EOD).
The Commissioner of Police then urged members of the public to go about their lawful business and reiterated the command’s readiness to always ensure safety of lives and property. (vitalnews)
