The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of two Nigerian traders in South Africa, describing the act as both intolerable and senseless.
Dabiri-Erewa who made the call in a statement in Abuja called on South African authorities to urgently identify and prosecute the perpetrators of the heinous crime.
In the statement signed by the Commission’s spokesperson, Abdur-Rahman Balogun,
Dabiri-Erewa emphasized that such unprovoked killings are barbaric and unacceptable.
She then urged the South African government to fulfill its obligation by implementing the previously agreed-upon early warning mechanism meant to curb these violent incidents.
The victims, identified as Austin and Ayo, were reportedly gunned down in cold blood by masked assailants in Durban.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the attackers stormed Austin’s office and shot both men at close range, killing them instantly.
This incident has sparked fear and outrage within the Nigerian community in South Africa.
However, Dabiri-Erewa, has appealed for calm, urging Nigerians at home and abroad not to take the law into their hands while investigations are ongoing.
She reaffirmed NIDCOM’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and confirmed that the Acting Nigerian High Commissioner in South Africa has formally demanded a thorough and impartial probe into the killings.
