Private companies and Industries operating in Kogi State have been advised to prioritise their obligations on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Malam Muktar Muhammed Shuaibu gave the advice during a two-day familiarization visit to Ajaokuta Steel Company, Obajana Cement Plant, Jakura Marble Industry, Lokoja and other companies operating in the state.

The Commissioner said government recognises the economic challenges business operators now grapple with but noted that more needed to be done in giving back to host communities and citizens.

Malam Muktar also applauded some of the companies for improved compliance with state regulations and efforts in sustaining cordial relationship with the communities as he further encouraged them not to compromise on standards.

He disclosed that the Governor Usman Ododo-led administration would continue to explore initiatives towards addressing security challenges in the state as well as enthroning policies that guarantee return on investments.

At the Obajana Cement factory, the Plant Director, Mr Azad Nawabuddin called on the state government to intensify investment in technological education that is driven by contemporary ICT skills for more citizens to get engaged.

He explained that the company was intensifying its indigenization drive as well as improving exports trade to increase foreign exchange.

On their part, the managements of some of the industries sought for streamlining of taxes and revenue collection as the multiple monies being paid were taking a huge toll on businesses.

Some of the agro industries also sought investment in renewable energy, large scale farming as well as patronage from the Kogi state Government in ensuring food security.
