Residents of Patigi Local Government in Kwara State were thrown into mourning in the early hours of Wednesday following the killing of three persons and abduction of a 12-year old girl in two separate attacks by suspected kidnappers.
Spokesman of Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi,confirmed the development in a statement in Ilorin.
According to the statement, the first attack occurred around 1:30 am in Mari and Lile villages via Lade, where unidentified gunmen killed 35-year-old Timothy Paul in Mari village.
The assailants also struck in Lile village, where they murdered 51-year-old Alhaji Abdullahi Shehu and his 22-year-old son, Abdullahi Muhammad.
“A medical doctor confirmed all three individuals dead,” the statement said.
It added that investigations have commenced and manhunt has been launched to track down those responsible for the dastardly act.
In a separate incident at about 3:00 am, police said four armed men invaded Aiyetoro Fulani Camp and abducted a 12-year-old girl identified as Hassana Abdullahi, daughter of Mr Abdullahi Jowuro.
Police authorities disclosed that joint tactical teams, including police officers, local vigilantes, and hunters, have been deployed to the area to conduct bush combing and facilitate the rescue of the victim.
“The scene of the crime has been secured and documented, and efforts are ongoing to ensure the safe return of the abducted girl,” the statement assured.
While condemning the attacks, the Kwara State Police Command called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
“The Command remains committed to public safety and will continue to work with relevant stakeholders to curb insecurity in the state,” SP Ejire-Adeyemi stated.
