Abuja – The Federal Government has released a circular on the 65 years retirement age or 40 years of service for teachers as approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The circular dated June 23, 2022 and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, David Adejo, said the approval is for all education officers, irrespective of posting, while emphasising chalk-to-hand teachers.
The circular which did not state if both states and federal teachers are affected by its contents, however, stated that henceforth, there will no longer be boundaries in the implementation of the harmonised policy for education officers and teachers.
The circular said those not interested in the elongation can apply for retirement, in line with extant public service rules.
The circular said that the document supercedes earlier releases.
