Lokoja – The governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has approved 100 per cent increase in the salaries of players and officials of Kogi United FC and Confluence Queens.
The Chairman of the board of the clubs, Isah Abdulmalike disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Lokoja.
Victoria Toluhi Tafu signed the statement on behalf of the state ministry of sports and youth development.
Tafu quoted Abdulmalike as saying that the increments will be a morale booster for the players and officials of the two teams.
According to him, Kogi State Government under Governor Yahaya Bello has consistently demonstrated its interest in both teams.
Abdulmalike said that this latest action of the governor would serve as a necessary tonic for the teams as they intensify preparations for the new football season.
Both clubs have being on consolidated monthly Salaries since 2013 , a development being cited by observers as one of f the reasons for the poor outings of the teams in national football competitions.
The Chairman thanked Bello for the gesture.
He assured the governor that the teams will reciprocate by putting in their best to make the state proud in the coming football season.
Abdulmalike congratulated and commended the teams for their patience and commitment towards the progress of football in the state
Responding on behalf of the players,the Captain of Kogi United, Tunde Oladapo commended the state Government for the increments and promised that the teams will do their best by promoting to Nigerian Professional Football League( NPFL).
