AIG Appeals To NLC, TUC To Ensure Peaceful Protest In Kogi

Lokoja – The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, in charge of Zone 8 , AIG Babatunde Ishola, has appealed to members of the organised labour in Kogi State to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner during the protest
scheduled to hold tomorrow, Wednesday, August 2.

SP William Ovye Aya, Police Public Relations Officer, Kogi State Police Command, said the AIG made the appeal on Tuesday during a meeting with leaders of organised Labour in Lokoja.

Aya in the statement quoted AIG Ishola as telling the labour leaders that the meeting was called to appeal to them and their unions’ members to conduct themselves within the context of the law during the protest.

Ishola , said they should not allow hoodlums to hijack the protest as an opportunity to forment trouble in Lokoja and its environs.

Also speaking at the meeting, the state Commissioner of Police, Onuoha Bethrand, commended the AIG for calling the meeting.

He allayed fears that the peaceful protest could be hijacked by the hoodlums.

Onuoha, appealed to the labour leaders to co-operate with the security agencies to deny trouble makers the opportunity to strike.

He assured of adequate security deployment before, during and after the protest.

The Kogi State Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Amari Gabriel in his speech assured the AIG that the organised labour in the state will do their best to ensure a peaceful protest.

He expressed the readiness of the unions in the state to obey the National directive to embark on the protest.

According, workers that will participate in the protest will appear in trade unions’ uniforms while those without uniforms will wear tags for proper identification.

Also speaking, the state Chairman of TUC, Ahmed Sule Tijani disclosed that, the purpose of the protest is to let the Government know that, Labour is the hope of a common man.

He promised that the unions will work for a peaceful protest.

Other senior Officers at the meeting include, DCP Atabor Nosa Festus Deputy Commissioner of Police, Administration, Zone 8 , ACP Ajao Olusegun, Assistant Commissioner Police, Investigation, Zone 8, ACP Sunday Omonijo, Assistant Commissioner of Police , Operations, Zone 8, as well as Comrade Opaluwa Eleojo, Vice Chairman NLC, Kogi State, among others.
