The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, on Monday visited Kwara State for the first time since his appointment, promising to strengthen police operations and rid the state of all forms of criminality.
Disu, who revealed he had spent three weeks in Kwara last month as part of a tactical team to tackle rising insecurity, assured residents of his commitment to restoring peace.
“I was in Kwara State last month, in fact, I stayed three weeks to crush insecurity here.
“I am for Kwara, I know Kwara and its problems, I like Kwara and I will do all in my power to restore civility here,” he said.
Speaking at the state police command in Ilorin, the IGP acknowledged the role of both security personnel and citizens in the fight against crime.

“I have come to say thank you for all you have been doing to the police,” he stated, urging more collaboration from traditional institutions and residents alike.
“The criminals cannot take our land from us, it’s our land, we shall not at any time relinquish it to them.”
He also commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his continued support, noting that the partnership between the state government and the police had been instrumental in combating crime.
“I have visited and thanked the governor for his assistance, he has really helped us in fighting those criminals,” Disu said.
Addressing challenges faced by police officers in the line of duty, Disu promised to look into their welfare.
“Every day a policeman, including myself, lives is a blessing. We are not always sure of returning home alive after we say goodbye to our families. I am going to look into your plight,” he assured.
The state Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, also lauded traditional rulers, particularly the emirate, for their steadfast support, and called for similar engagement from other institutions across Kwara State.
