The Lagos State popular paramount ruler died after a brief illness.
His death at the weekend ended his remarkable 48-year reign on the throne.
Palace sources said traditional burial rites for the later ruler have commenced.
Born in 1936, the late monarch was a former journalist before ascending the throne on 23 April, 1977, succeeding his forefather.
Over his nearly 50-year reign, he guided Badagry with a focus on peace, unity, and community development.
As Permanent Vice-Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, Aholu Menu-Toyi I’s counsel shaped traditional governance across the state.
He was widely respected as a devoted custodian of Ogu culture and a passionate advocate for the welfare of his people.
Tributes are expected from across Nigeria for the monarch, whose enduring legacy of service, cultural preservation, and leadership remains deeply etched in the history of Badagry.
Lagos State is yet to issue an official statement in the transition of the first class traditional ruler.
