The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has described as “troubling”, the recurring pattern of deaths caused by stampedes during the distribution of palliatives to vulnerable Nigerians.
The President of CAN, Archbishop Daniel Okoh in a statement commiserating with victims of the latest stampede at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama, Abuja, said this was the third tragic occurrence in December 2024 alone.
Archbishop Okoh called on Nigerians to unite in love and understanding to support those who are grieving as a result of these tragedies.
The apex Christian association further called on Nigerians to honour the memory of those that died due to the tragedies by “committing to a future filled with hope, where every life matters, and where we can gather in safety and peace, sharing in the abundance of food and support that we can provide for one another as a nation.”
Archbishop Okoh also prayed for the eternal rest of the deceased and God’s comfort to all who are grieving.
