Corpses of five members of the same family have been recovered from the debris of a two-storey building which collapsed on Tuesday in Ilorin, Kawara State.
This brings to nine, the number of people that lost their lives in the incident.
The five corpses recovered were among the eight people trapped as at Tuesday when the building collapsed suddenly.
The collapsed building is located at Popo Giwa area, Ilorin, Kwara State.
Meanwhile, all the victims have been buried according to Islamic rites.
They were laid to rest at the Muslim Cemetery, Oko-Olowo, Ilorin, amid grief from relatives, friends and sympathisers.
The Janazah prayer was led by renowned Islamic scholar and University of Ilorin lecturer, Prof. Abubakr Imam Ali-Agan.
In his sermon, Ali-Agan urged Muslims to remain steadfast in their faith and accept Allah’s will, particularly in moments of tragedy and grief.
He described death as inevitable, urging the bereaved family to draw strength from the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, which, he said, offered hope and consolation to families who lose loved ones in tragic circumstances.
“Muslims must have absolute faith in Allah and accept His will in every situation and under all circumstances,” Ali-Agan said.
The scholar also called on the government to intensify public enlightenment campaigns on building safety and other measures that could help prevent disasters and minimise loss of lives.
He stressed the need for greater awareness among residents on how to identify and respond to potential dangers associated with buildings and other environmental hazards.
Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, was represented at the funeral by Alhaji AbdulRazaq Jiddah.
