The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) says it recently sacked 800 workers to reposition the company for improved customer satisfaction and sustainable growth.
The electricity distribution company stated this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.
However, some reports said the retrenchment exercise, which started on Wednesday, was due to the failure of the company to perform daily operational duties across its network as well as meet its obligations to workers.
The company in the statement explained that the mass retrenchment
was due to a restructuring exercise aimed at delivering improved services to “our customers as well as enhanced operational efficiency and excellence.”
According to the statement, those affected are mostly retiring employees and those performing below par.
The company said that as part of the transformation exercise, it had also promoted some high-performing staff and “released” some retiring employees and those performing below par.
It said the exercise was to pave a way for the implementation of a robust employee development and customer management plan aimed at driving its customer-centric focus.
