The Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has shed more light on the recent decision by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) imposing a one-year ban on admission into the university’s law programs.
In a statement, KWASU explained that the decision was a sanction from the Council for Legal Education (CLE) due to the institution’s commencement of its law program in 2018 with only the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
“KWASU currently has full accreditation from both the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Council for Legal Education (CLE) to run two undergraduate law programs ; Common Law and Common and Islamic Law,” the school management stated.
The university assured current law students that the ban would not affect those already enrolled in the Faculty of Law.
“Kwara State University holds all regulatory institutions in very high regard and will comply with the sanctions imposed by CLE by not offering admission into the two law programs in the 2025/2026 admission session,” the statement added.
The institution advised prospective candidates to consider applying to other accredited programs at KWASU, emphasizing that all courses offered by the university meet required accreditation standards.
