Abuja – The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) said it had paid N103.037bn as transport claims for petrol delivered by marketers from December 2021 to August 2022.

The Independent Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) Suleja depot branch, the IPMAN Maiduguri depot branch and the Northern Independent Petroleum Marketers Forum (NIPMF) Kano depot branch had begun a three-day warning strike on Monday over non-payment of N50bn bridging claims since this year.

However, in a statement on Tuesday, NMDPRA said it had engaged with the NIPMF on shelving the action to ensure uninterrupted supply of petrol throughout the nation.

NMDPRA said the meeting was held on Monday and Tuesday, and that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd also participated.

It said: “Previous engagements and today’s meeting addressed issues regarding bridging claims and other matters. The Authority would like to reiterate that payment of bridging claims is an ongoing process and payments are disbursed as it is received from marketers.

“It should be noted that The Authority has disbursed a total of N103,037,183,922.91 (N103.037bn) between December 2021 to August 2022,” stated the authority.

NMDPRA also said following the extensive deliberations, it has committed to fast-track the settlement of all outstanding claims when received from marketers after due verification and reconciliation.

“NIPMF agreed to work with the NMDPRA to ensure free flow of petroleum products nationwide.” ( Daily Trust / vitalnewsngr.com)
