Six students abducted from the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa State, have been released by their captors in the early hours of Wednesday after payment of N5 million ransom by their parents.
One of them while speaking anonymously, said that the kidnappers originally targeted a man in the neighbouring village of Gandu but ended up abducting nearby students when they missed their intended target.
The victim alleged that the abductors assaulted and sexually molested them and threatened to murder them if their parents reported the incident to the police.
The victim added that the other five victims have reunited with their families.
When inquired about the university’s awareness, the victim confirmed that the institution’s Chief Security Officer was informed.
A relative of the victim said she would be taken to the hospital for a medical check-up.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramsel Nansel, the police public relations officer for the Nasarawa State police command, claimed to have no knowledge of the incident.
Attempts to reach the university’s public relations officer were unsuccessful when this report was filed.
