Police in Ogun State have arraigned the suspended Olorile of Orile Ifo, Semiu Adewale Ogunjobi,for assaulting a 73-year-old man, Elder Abraham Areola.
The suspended monarch was arraigned on Tuesday on a three-count charge of conspiracy, assault and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.
According to the Force Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, the suspended Oba was granted bail after pleading not guilty to offences.
It was gathered that he was granted bail on liberal terms of N5million with two sureties in the like sum.
The traditional ruler was on Monday suspended by the Ogun State government in collaboration with Egba Traditional Council.
Ogunjobi, a former police officer, was captured in a viral video physically assaulting the old man, alongside his accomplices whose faces were also not captured in the video.
In the video, he accused Elder Areola of an alleged betrayal with one Wasiu while cursing the old man severely.
Ogunjobi, who had earlier denied being the person in the viral video, according to the Committee for Human Rights, confessed at the Eleweran headquarters of Ogun State police command.
He was also said to be begging the victim with a plot of land.
The embattled Oba was said to be using his influence as a former police officer and that of his wife identified as Officer Veronica serving at FCID, Alagbon, to threaten the peace of Orile Ifo. (vitalnewsngr.com)
