One hundred and seventy-six women and children abducted during the deadly terrorist attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have regained their freedom after spending six
months in captivity.

The victims were kidnapped in February 2026 when heavily armed terrorists, believed to be Boko Haram insurgents, invaded the community, killing more than 200 residents before taking hundreds of women and children hostage in one of the bloodiest attacks ever recorded in Kwara State.

The Kwara State Government announced the development on Wednesday, describing the victims’ return as a major breakthrough in ongoing security efforts.

In a message shared on its official social media platforms, the government stated: “Breaking: Woro Kidnap Victims Regain Freedom.

“Alhamdulillaah and kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, security forces, and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful!”

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Communications, Ibraheem Abdullateef, also confirmed the development, attributing the successful rescue to the efforts of security agencies.

“Kwara State Government is happy to share that the security forces have rescued the people who were kidnapped at Woro community in Kwara North,” he said.

Some of the Abductees released in Kwara State on Wednesday.

He added: “Kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, security forces, and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful!”

Although the victims have regained their freedom, authorities have yet to disclose the circumstances surrounding their release, including whether any ransom was paid or if a coordinated security operation led to their rescue.

The February attack on Woro community left more than 200 people dead and forced hundreds of women and children into captivity, sparking widespread concern over the growing threat of terrorism in parts of Kwara North.
