President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has renewed the appointments of the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Abdulhamid Salihu Dembos, and the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ali Mohammed Ali.
The renewal, which takes effect on October 20, 2026, gives both media executives another four-year term after their initial appointments by the President on October 20, 2023.
The development was announced on Sunday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Dembos, an indigene of Yola, Adamawa State, joined the NTA as an announcer at its Kaduna station in 1989 after completing his National Youth Service.
He subsequently rose through the ranks, serving as General Manager of NTA Lokoja and NTA Kano, among other positions, before retiring in 2017 as Acting Zonal Director of the NTA Kaduna Network Centre.
He later returned to the organisation as Executive Director, Marketing, and previously served as National President of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union.
Ali, a veteran journalist and media manager with more than three decades of experience, holds a degree in English from Bayero University, Kano, a graduate degree in International Affairs from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication from Bayero University.
He is known for his interest in media evolution, content development and adapting news delivery to the demands of the digital era and Nigeria’s diverse audience.
Tinubu urged both chief executives to justify the confidence reposed in them by sustaining their commitment to the mandates of their respective organisations and supporting the promotion of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
