Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State recently received a delegation of the European Union (EU) which came on an investment visit to the state.
The delegation was led by Mr Massimo De Luca.
The state Deputy Governor, Mr Joel Salifu received the delegation on behalf of the Governor.
Mr Massimo while speaking expressed interest in investing in waterway route from Lagos-Ikorodu – Ajaokuta in Kogi State.
According to Mr Massimo, the proposed project is aimed at reducing pressure on Nigeria’s roads by moving more bulk goods through the waterways.
He said the project would involve SeaLink and other local and international financial partners,including NEXIM Bank and European financial institutions.
He also said other major companies could participate in the project as it develops.
The delegation requested for 50 hectares of land in Kogi State, with the necessary Certificate of Occupancy, for the company’s operational base.

Responding on behalf of the Governor, the Deputy Governor welcomed the proposed investment and assured the delegation that Kogi State is ready to partner with genuine investors.
He explained that the proposal would go through the appropriate government processes, including consideration by the Kogi State Economic Council, before a final decision is taken.
Comrade Joel Salifu said he would discuss the request for land with his principal, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for consideration.
He assured the delegation that the state government would communicate its official position after the necessary consultations.
The EU delegation visited Kogi State on Friday, September 11, 2026.
