The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has adopted the direct primary method for the selection of the party’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Under the arrangement, APC members across the country will vote directly to choose the party’s flag bearer between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is seeking a second term in office, and Edo State businessman, Osifo Stanley, who has purchased the party’s N100 million presidential nomination forms.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu on Thursday formally submitted his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.
The forms were presented on his behalf by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Earlier, a member of the House of Representatives, James Faleke, had picked up the nomination forms for the President at the party’s national secretariat on Tuesday.
Osifo Stanley, a chieftain of the ruling party, confirmed his intention to contest the APC presidential ticket, setting the stage for a potential internal contest against the incumbent president.
Recalled that the APC National Working Committee (NWC) had on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, waived screening requirements for President Tinubu.
The APC NWC approved the waiver at its 188th Meeting, held in Abuja on May 6, 2026.
The actions deemed President Tinubu duly screened in accordance with the Constitution of the Party for the purpose of participation in the upcoming primary elections.
