Abuja – The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of Barr. Hudu Yunusa-Ari, the syspended Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC).
Force Public Relation Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi in a statement said
Yusuf- Ari, was arrested in Abuja on Tuesday, May 2, 2023.
According to Adejobi, the suspended REC was arrested by the Police Election Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Team in Abuja.
“Barrister Ari is currently in Police custody and is being grilled to ascertain the motives and motivations behind his alleged improper actions during the supplementary elections in Adamawa State.
“In addition, other officials and individuals culpable in the saga are being interrogated by the team,” the statement said.
Vitalnews recalls that Yusuf-Ari had announced, Aisha Dahiru Binani, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the gubernatorial elections while votes were still being collated.
His action generated a lot upheavals, forcing the INEC to report him to President Muhammadu Buhari who ordered his immediate suspension from office.
Aside the suspension, the INEC also wrote the Inspector – general of police to arrest and investigate him.
Yusuf-Ari consequently went into hiding to escape police arrest and a search for him was initiated.
Ari, was eveyially arrested in Abuja on Tuesday 2nd May, 2023.
” The Inspector-General of Police has given clear assurance that every individual involved/indicted in the matter will be apprehended and investigated in line with the provisions of the law for possible prosecution.
“The Inspector-General of Police has assured of the commitment of the Force to ensuring that justice is served in this case and that all guilty parties are brought to justice,” the statement said.
