Police in Ilorin, Kwara State, have arrested three muslim clerics identified as Alhaji Salihu Saka, 63; Alhaji Abubakar Salihu, 58; and Alhaji Yekini Olohuntele, 67 in connection with the burning down of a house belonging to a woman traditional worshipper, Mrs. T.A. Olorisha.
The arrest of the suspects followed full scale investigation launched into the fire accident by the police.
The house of the elderly woman traditionalist located at Isale Koko area of Ilorin, was set ablaze on January 1, 2026.
The incident which drew
public outrage sparked by a viral video of the victim lamenting her loss happened while the homeowner, Mrs. T.A. Olorisha, was away.
She later reported the matter to the police at C Division, Oja Oba, around 10pm on January 2, alleging that her house was deliberately set on fire by unknown persons.
According to the police, preliminary findings suggest that the attack may be linked to threats Mrs. Olorisha allegedly received late last year over religious differences.
The complainant, told investigators that she was threatened in November 2025 by three individuals she identified as Alhaji Salihu Saka, 63; Alhaji Abubakar Salihu, 58; and Alhaji Yekini Olohuntele, 67.
Confirming the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the suspects have been arrested and are currently in custody to assist ongoing investigations.
“We are aware of the video circulating online, and the Command has commenced a thorough investigation into the fire incident, which is suspected to be an act of arson.
“Three suspects named by the complainant have been taken into custody, while efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other persons who may be connected to the crime,” she said.
SP Ejire-Adeyemi added that no life was lost in the incident, as no one was inside the building when the fire occurred, noting that the extent and value of the damage are yet to be determined.
She assured residents that the police would not tolerate any form of violence or discrimination based on religious or cultural beliefs.
“The Kwara State Police Command remains committed to the protection of lives, property and the fundamental rights of all residents, regardless of their faith or cultural background,” she said.
The police spokesperson also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and support the investigation by providing credible information that could help bring all those responsible to justice.
