Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has thanked President Bola Tinubu for ensuring that “democracy lost lives on ” As reflected in the jus concluded governorship election in the state.
Speaking to the press after the declaration, the governor confirmed that President Tinubu has just called to congratulate him.
Adeleke, who described his re-election as a victory for democracy and Osun people, thanked the president for ensuring democracy ‘lives on.’
“I want to seize this opportunity to thank Mr President. Mr President has called me and he has congratulated me, thank you Mr President for making sure democracy lives on because you fought for it,” he said.
Earlier, Accord Party chieftain, Pelumi Olajengbesi, disclosed that President Tinubu had called Adeleke to congratulate him before the result was announced.
Adeleke was formally declared winner by INEC on Sunday in Osogbo, the state capital.
INEC Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole announced the results around 7:49am.
Ogunwole who is the current Vice-Chancellor, Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), supervised the final aggregation of results from the 30 LGAs.
According to the final collation announced on Form EC8E, Adeleke polled a total of 511,067 votes to defeat his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 444,815 votes.
The African Democratic Congress governorship candidate in Osun State, Najeem Salaam, had 17,180 votes.
The total number of registered voters is 2,339,544, while total numbers of accredited voters: 1,010,684; The total valid votes: 985,079.
