The Nigeria Football Federation has sacked the entire technical crew of the Super Falcons following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The NFF Executive Committee directed all members of the technical crew to step down with immediate effect on Monday, following the team’s disappointing campaign at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and subsequent World Cup qualifying playoffs.
“The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has asked members of the technical crew of the @NGSuper_Falcons to step down with immediate effect,” the federation announced.
The decision came after the ten-time African champions suffered their earliest-ever exit from the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, losing 1-0 to Cameroon in the quarter-finals.
The defeat ended Nigeria’s hopes of securing an automatic World Cup qualification ticket and forced the Super Falcons into the African playoffs, where they needed to beat South Africa to remain in contention.
However, the Super Falcons suffered another setback in the playoffs, losing 2-1 to Banyana Banyana and effectively ending their hopes of reaching the 2027 tournament in Brazil.
The failure marks a major setback for Nigeria, which has been a regular participant at the Women’s World Cup and had never previously missed the tournament.
The NFF’s decision to remove the technical crew now follows a campaign that saw the Super Falcons fall short both at the continental championship and in their final route to the World Cup.
