An attempt by a man to smuggle substances suspected to be hard drugs into the Ilorin, Kwara State Custodial Centre on Tuesday has been thwarted by vigilant personnel on duty.
This reinforced ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal activities within correctional facilities.
The incident involved a male visitor ( name withheld) who attempted to beat established security checks with the aud of compromised internal processes.
However, vigilant officers on duty detected the move, and swiftly intercepted the suspect before gaining access to the facility.
According to preliminary findings, the individual was immediately apprehended and handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for full investigation and possible prosecution.

The management of the custodial centre, in a statement, described the interception as a testament to the effectiveness of existing security measures and the commitment of personnel to uphold professional standards.
“This development underscores the importance of strict adherence to operational protocols and our zero tolerance for any form of compromise,” the statement noted.
The authorities also disclosed that additional internal measures have been activated to further strengthen security across all entry points, particularly to prevent any form of collusion or breach.
Staff of the facility have been urged to remain vigilant at all times and sustain the highest level of discipline and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
The incident highlights growing concerns over attempts to infiltrate correctional centres with prohibited substances, even as security agencies intensify collaboration to curb such acts nationwide. (vitalnewsngr.com)
