Officials from the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development have shut down His Grace Children Home and Hostel Orphanage located at Isolo area of the state.

The action is in response to a viral video depicting His Grace Children Home and Hostel Orphanage as an illegal outfit.

His Grace Children Home and Hostel Orphanage as at the time of being shut down on Tuesday had seven wards ; four adults of between 18 – 25 years, and three children of between 13 – 16 years.

The orphanage was never registered with the state government at any time.

Commenting on the development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, the state Commissioner, in charge of the ministry said : “No illegal orphanage will be allowed to operate in Lagos State.

“The State Government will not fold its hands and watch contravention of the laid down rules and regulations meant to set an acceptable standard.”

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu deplored the sharp practices the Ministry had observed among Operators of Orphanages in the state.

Oke-Osanyintolu said : “times without number, we have had stakeholders meeting with the registered home operators in a bid to ensure that we are on the same page of doing what is acceptable.

“It is unfortunate that a thing like this can still occur. All those who have decided to go the way of illegality had better desist forthwith because we will come after them with the law.

“Every home operator in the State must abide by the rules.”
