Leaders, elders, stakeholders and political office aspirants on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State have resolved to participate fully in the party’s forthcoming national convention in Abuja.
They described the coming national convention as critical to strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The decision was reached at an emergency meeting held on Wednesday at the party secretariat in Ilorin
The meeting was convened by the State Executive Committee.
The gathering focused on key issues surrounding the PDP’s national convention scheduled for March 29, 2026.
Deliberating on whether to attend the Abuja convention after a previous one held in Ibadan last November, stakeholders unanimously agreed that Kwara State delegates must be present to take part in the proceedings.
According to the communique, the meeting resolved that “our delegates should attend and fully participate in the coming national convention in Abuja,” underscoring the importance of unity and active engagement at the national level.
The stakeholders further agreed that the outcome of the convention would determine the party’s next line of action in the state.

They noted that if the exercise is successfully conducted in line with legal requirements and witnessed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), another meeting would be convened to review developments.
They added that such a review would guide recommendations to party leadership on adopting the PDP as the platform for contesting the 2027 general elections.
Reaffirming confidence in the party’s strength, the stakeholders maintained that the PDP remains widely accepted across all 16 local government areas of Kwara State.
They stressed that the party’s structure and grassroots appeal remain intact despite recent developments at the national level.
“The PDP remains a very popular, credible and widely accepted platform in Kwara State, with unmatched reach across the local government areas,” the communique stated.
The meeting also commended party leaders and members for their loyalty, resilience and continued commitment to the PDP in the state.

The communique was signed by Hon. Isa Bawa Adamu, State Chairman, Kwara PDP, on behalf of the State Executive Committee; Alhaji Ishola Balogun Fulani for the Council of Elders; Hajia Nimotailani Ibrahim for Board of Trustees members;, and Rt. Hon. Prof. Ali Ahmad for aspirants. (vitalnewsngr.com)
