IYD : Lagos Deputy Governor Tasks Youth On Intellectual Property

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Hamzat has urged youths in the state to embrace education that will help them to be creative and find solutions to societal problems.

Speaking at the international Youth Day Conference held on Thursday at Regency Hall, Alausa, Ikeja, Dr Hamzat implored the youths to employ technology to improve themselves in whatever fields of human endeavor they find themselves in life.

He said : “Study the right thing with the aid of technology that will make your work more effective and efficient.

“Nigerian professors are among the best in the world.

“The challenge we have is we have not been able to realize the importance of intellectual property that comes through bringing into existence an idea that profers solution to problem affecting us.

“As youths, you can get this information by reading good books and watching videos on YouTubes that will equip you with this knowledge.

“Desist from unprofitable activities like cyber fraud and ritualism. Rather, focus on things that will make you relevant in future.”

The Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Youth and Social Development, Hon. Abiodun Orekoya in his goodwill message, urged the youths to use the social media to develop themselves by being creative, innovative and acquiring entrepreneurial skills.

He added that Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) was set up to support them in actualising their dreams.

In his address, the Commissioner, for Youth and Social Development, Mr Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, advised the youths to take advantage of the opportunities the State Government has made available through the numerous youth oriented programmes in order to succeed in their endeavours.

“I need to let you know that your destiny is in your hands.

“Take advantage of opportunities at your disposal now to be able to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the state and our nation.

“Equip yourself with digital literacy to become relevant in your generation.

“As a Ministry, we have done our part which you need to complement for things to work out well,” he said .

In his goodwill message, the Lagos State Head of Service,Mr Shuaheeb Bode Agoro, stated that the vision of building a smart city is the focal point of this administration which the youths must key into by being digitally literate.

Agoro added that it was the reason the State Government partnered with GFA Technologies to provide the young ones opportunity of acquiring skills.

Earlier in her opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mrs Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu charged the youths to channel their creativity, energy and resilience towards building a more prosperous Lagos State that everyone would be proud of.

“As youths, you hold the key to unlocking the vast potential that lies within the digital realm.

“The clicks that echo across the social media platforms, online environments and entrepreneurial ventures are not mere action.

“They are the seeds of progress that will shape the future,” She stated.

In their various contributions, Founder,/CEO UTIVA, Mr Eyitayo Ogunmola, Mr Omoruyi Edoigiawrrie, Co-founder, Siwk,Ms Chioma Upkpabi, and Founder, Afkit, Mr Funsho Awodiran urged the participants to embrace Artificial Intelligence, ChaptGPT, acquire entrepreneurial skills, network with other successful persons, find mentors and coaches that will help them attain their desired heights.
