A gang of kidnappers has abandoned a car containing two AK-47 riffles, 25 rounds of live ammunition, US dollar notes, one piece of 1000 Euro note and a small jack knife among others when their operation was foiled by the police in Borokiri area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Operatives of the Rivers Police Command acting on credible intelligence foiled planned kidnapping by the gang of kidnappers at about 9:40pm on Thursday February 9 in response to distress calls.
However, the hoodlums ran away after they were confronted by policemen, abandoning their ash coloured Toyota Corolla car with Reg. No. AGL 540 DV, the spokesperson for Rivers Police Command SP Grace Iringe-Koko said in a statement.
She further revealed that a search conducted on the vehicle, revealed that two (2) AK47 riffles with three (3) magazines, twenty-five rounds of live ammunition, a staff ID card of First Bank and UBA ATM cards.
The police spokesperson listed other items recovered from the vehicle to include: two pieces of One US Dollar note, one piece of 1000 Euro note, N2,800 and a small Jack knife.
Iringe-Koko said abandoned vehicle and its contents have been taken to the Police Command for discreet investigation, with a view to possibly arresting the fleeing suspects.
