Lokoja – Former Senate President and leading Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Dr Bukola Saraki says he has the experience and capacity to fix Nigeria if elected the President in 2023.
Saraki stated this on Sunday in Lokoja during a meeting with PDP delegates from Kogi State.
He said his experience as a player in the private sector, two term former governor and president of the Senate stood him apart and put him far ahead of other aspirants jostling for the PDP’s presidential ticket.
Saraki said that all offices he occupied since his sojourn in politics, he left them better, promising to also leave Nigeria better when leaving office as the president.
The Kwara State born presidential aspirant said that the country is currently entangled in multi-faceted problems, saying that what Nigeria needs now is a man of his wealth of experience, capacity, capability and exposure to help out.
“A country where virtually all its money go into service of debt cannot develop. We will reverse this trend by bringing in foreign investors to invest in our economy,” he said.
He told the delegates that his decision to contest the presidency was not personal but a collective decision of the leaders in the North Central zone.
“In the North Central, the position they reserved for us is the President of the Senate. The zone has so far produced four Senate presidents. The leaders sat down and decided that the North Central should bid for the presidency this time around, it is not my personal decision but that of the entire leaders in the zone,” he said.
According to him, his aspiration is also to fulfil the vison of the founding fathers of the zone like Senator. J.S. Tarka, Senator A.T. Ahmed, Late Makama Bida, Chief Solomon Lar, Dr Sola Saraki, Chief. S.B. Awoniyi, Chief Silas Daniyan and many others.
He said that the zone is very close to fulfiling the hopes and aspirations of its leaders, urging the delegates to give him their support and backing by voting for him during the party’s presidential primary coming up later this month.
“Let us make history together, let us turn around this country, I am the bridge between North and South, I am the bridge between Muslims and Christian’s, I am the bridge between young and old , we will make this country better,” Saraki told the delegates.
As the president of Nigeria from 2023, Saraki promised to harness the potentials of the zone in the areas of mining and agriculture to create wealth and jobs for Nigerians.
He said that the zone has suffered enough for other parts of the country, promising to empower people from the zone if elected the President.
The Chairman of the state chapter of the PDP, Mr Sam Ohuotu while welcoming Saraki restated the vision of the founding fathers of the zone and said time is now for the zone to produce the next President.
