The Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has presented a budget of 340 billion naira before the state assembly for the 2024 fiscal year.
Tagged Budget of Consolidation and Progress, the governor said 198 billion naira is earmarked for capital expenditure while one142 allocated for recurrent expenditure.
Health, education, works and finance gulp more than 50 per cent of the proposed budget.
Governor Babagana Zulum during the presentation promised to complete all ongoing projects captured in 2023 budget in the next fiscal year.
According to him, Ministry of finance has been allocated 53 billion naira for both recurrent and capital expenditure including payment of gratuities which has been increased from 1.2 to 2.4 billion, Health was allocated 51 billion, Education 39 billion, while ministry Works and Housing would recieve 45 billion.
Governor Zulum explained that four billion has been set aside for the construction of boreholes in northern and central parts of the state to address perennial water scarcity.
He promised to clear all debts owed the state before the end of his second term.
“As we are gradually exiting from office, I plan to ensure that, insha’Allah, I’ll leave a clean slate to the incoming administration. I want to ensure that we pay all debts so that anybody who is taking over from me will have a clean slate to begin. May Almighty in his mercy, help us”, Zulum said.
Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan, commended Governor Zulum for his achievements in the last four and a half years.
He assured the Governor of the State Assembly’s resolve and commitment to pass the appropriation bill on time.
