The Organisation of Muslim Unity (Nig) ( OMU) , has condemned what it called an unwarranted attack on a Muslim family by a Pastor of the Christ Apostolic Church, Agbala Imole, Iseyin, Oyo State.
The group stated this in a communique issued at the end of its 82nd NEC meeting held from 5th – 7th July, 2024 in Lagos.
The communique was signed by Engr. Waheed Shittu, and Alhaji Ma’ruf Elegbede, President and Secretary General of the group respectively.
It said the decision of the Pastor to engage the services of soldiers to attack the Muslim family on Eid-el-Kabir day on June 16 , 2024 was provocative and unacceptable.
The communique said the action of the Pastor and soldiers involved was a clear violation of the
Constitution of Nigeria which guarantee freedom of religion devoid of any hatred or victimization from anybody.
“It is on this, we condemn in totality the unwarranted attack on our Muslim brother and his family by a Pastor of CAC Agbala Imole at Iseyin using Army Personnel to intimidate, harass and assault them on the day of Eid-El-Adha.
“We call for full justice on the matter and thorough investigation and appropriate punishment on the Army Personnel involved,” the group said.
The OMUN also commended the timely intervention and settlement of the misunderstanding between the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye and the Chief Imam of Ogbomoso, Alhaji Toliat Ayilara.
It advised those stoking the rift to allow better religious understanding and tolerance for a lasting peace and harmony to reign in the town.
On the recent bombing incident in Borno State, the organisation called for more vigilance by security agents at their various duty posts.
It also advised them not to relent on their current commendable efforts at bringing down insecurity to the present manageable situation.
“We call on Mr President and Federal Government to find a lasting solution to the high cost of living being experienced by the masses as a result of hyper-inflation caused by the removal of fuel subsidy and unstable foreign exchange value.
“We charged the Federal Government to reconsider the recent increase in the electricity tariff as it added to the burden of the citizens,” the Islamic group stated.
The communique also observed that the incessant down of tools by the various workers unions on wages and non implementation of agreements with government has continued to slow down productivity, and generally affecting the economy of the nation.
It then implored government to always honour signed agreements with the unions for peace to reign in the nation.
