Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo has strongly condemned the violent attack unleashed on Alhaji Muritala Yakubu Ajaka last Friday shortly after the Supreme Court delivered judgment in the suit he filed over the conduct and outcome of the November 11, 2023 governorship election in Kogi State.

Ajaka was the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the November 11, 2023 governorship election in Kogi State.

He had approached the election petition tribunal, Appeal Court and finally the Supreme Court to contest the conduct and outcome of the election.

However, things, took a frightening dimension on Friday, August 23, 2024 when he was attacked by political thugs within the premises of the Supreme Court shortly after the court had resolved the matter in favour of Governor Ododo.

In a press release issued and personally signed by him on Saturday, August 24, 2024, Ajaka accused members and supporters of APC of being behind the attack on him .

However, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications in a statement on Sunday in Lokoja said the governor condemned the attack in strongest terms.

According to him, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State described the conduct of the hoodlums as barbaric, uncivilized and a grave danger to the institution of justice.

Fanwo said the governor
urged Nigerians from all walks of life to eschew resort to self help.

The statement said : “As a Government, we implore the law enforcement agencies to fish out the perpetrators and make them face the full wrath of the law to serve as a deterrent to others as well as protect the integrity and safety of our court environments across the country.

“We urge all Nigerians to support the path of constitutionalism and unity, which are the core values of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

“We all must support his lofty policies and values for the progress and development of our dear nation.”
