The Federal Government has taken over the prosecution of the Alagbado of Agbado, Oba Adedayo Shyllon, who is standing trial for allegedly cyberstalking and threatening the life of the Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo.
The takeover followed an order of the Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, presided over by Justice Abiodun Adeyemi.
According to a Certified True Copy of the order dated September 24, 2025, the decision was reached after the court received a letter from the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation on September 16, 2025, requesting to take over the case in line with Section 174 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
Justice Adeyemi ruled that the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), had the constitutional authority to take charge of the matter.
The court subsequently directed that copies of the order be served on the Inspector-General of Police, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (Zone 2, Lagos), and the Ogun State Commissioner of Police for necessary action.
Oba Shyllon, who is facing two-counts charge of cyberstalking and threat to life filed by the Ogun State Police Command, was arraigned following a petition by the Alake.
The paramount ruler alleged that the monarch was falsely reported online to have threatened to kill him.
The monarch, however, has consistently denied the allegations, insisting that he is a victim of malicious online publications.
He claimed to have earlier petitioned the Zone II Police Command in Lagos against the publisher of the controversial report, stressing that his petition was still under investigation when he was invited by the Ogun Police Command and subsequently charged to court.
Further hearing in the matter has been fixed for October 29, 2025.
