Abuja – The Federal executive council (FEC) has approved N92.123 billion for the construction of a second runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika , disclosed this to State House correspondents after Wednesday’s FEC meeting which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa.
Sirika explained that the entire sum would be spread over a number of projects to be carried out at the airport.
The approval comes barely 24 hours after the new terminal at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, was inaugurated.
Buhari had during Tuesday’s inauguration, disclosed that he had directed the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, to source funds for the second runway project of the Abuja airport.
Sirika, when asked how the government intends to raise funds for the project, said the administration would use the same approach employed for raising funds for other projects across various sectors.
